Liuwa National Park
This remote park in the far west is pristine wilderness, especially fascinating because it remains completely natural and uncommercial. The birdlife is abundant and the very dramatic storms and lightning rising up on the horizon, create fantastic photographic opportunities.
You are likely to see flocks of crowned and wattled cranes in their natural habitat during this Zambia tour. In November, with the onset of the rains, the massive herds of Blue Wildebeest arrive from Angola, traversing the plains in their thousands, very often mingling with Zebra along the way or gathering around water holes and pans.
Other unusual antelope found include Oribi, Red Lechwe, Steenbok, Duiker, Tsessebe and Roan. The Jackal, Serval, Wild Cat, Wild Dog as well as Lion and Hyena are the predators of the area. The Mutemwa fly-in camp takes place annually at Liuwe Plains National Park in November and December.

Wild Dog
|
These pack-hunting dogs have a complex social structure where the pups are coveted above all. They are one of Africa’s most formidable hunters and roam vast areas at a brisk trot. Once almost shot to extinction, their numbers are now increasing.

Blue Wildebeest
|
During a drought in earlier times, before fences or boundaries were erected, the Blue Wildebeest would migrate great distances in search of good grazing and water.
